Examples of Websites for Outdoor Adventure Brands (That Actually Convert)

Designing the Outdoors for the Digital Space

Here at Sleepless Media, many of the websites we design are specifically for the outdoors industry, and we specialize in it for a reason—it’s in our blood, it’s our passion. Here are some examples of our work for Outdoor Sports and Adventure Brands. If you want to see how we approach projects like these, explore our outdoor industry web design work.

Most outdoor founders we talk to are dealing with one of two problems:

Their site does not reflect the quality of their product

Or it looks good, but it does not convert the way it should

If that sounds familiar, you are in the right place.

What High-Performing Outdoor Brand Websites Get Right

Outdoor customers do not shop like typical eCommerce buyers. They research, compare, and visualize how products fit into their lifestyle before making a decision.

The best-performing outdoor websites are built around a few key principles rooted in conversion rate optimization:

1. Guided buying experiences
Helping customers choose the right gear without overwhelm

2. Strong product storytelling
Showing how products perform in real environments

3. Modular upselling and bundling
Increasing average order value without friction

4. Mobile-first exploration
Because most discovery happens on mobile, even for high-ticket items

The examples below highlight how these principles come to life across different outdoor brands.

Who We Typically Work With

We partner with outdoor founders who are:

  • Scaling an eCommerce brand and need a better buying experience

  • Launching a new product and need clarity and trust fast

  • Replatforming from outdated or limiting systems

If you’re weighing your options, this breakdown of using Shopify Plus in the outdoor industry can help clarify what to expect.

Zpacks

Based in Florida, Zpacks makes the best ultralight backpacking gear money can buy. Sure, their gear is light, but it’s also extremely customizable, and comfort never takes a back seat. If you’re looking for a brand in the outdoor industry that’s doing it right in the e-commerce space, look to Zpacks.

For a long time, their website ran on a static, custom-built solution that was designed and managed in-house. It had grown into an unwieldy beast that wasn’t living up to the quality of their products. Zpacks hired us to completely reinvent their brand’s online presence.

The site’s user experience has a completely custom look and feel from top to bottom, and it’s built out on Shopify Plus. If you're considering a similar move, here’s how our Shopify Plus design agency approaches builds like this.

One of the many things that Zpacks gets right is its upselling functionality. When you add a backpack to your cart it dynamically suggests all of the accessories that can go along with that item, making it easy for customers to customize their setup while increasing the average order total.

Breeo Firepits

There’s no doubt that Breeo is dominating their space when it comes to fire pits and outdoor grilling—they are, after all, the original inventor of the smokeless firepit.

They underwent a rebrand in 2019 and we teamed up with them to fully redesign their Shopify Plus website to coincide with the roll-out.

The mobile-first design balances the joys of backyard fire pits with those looking to take their outdoor cooking adventures on the go.

We also designed and built out a custom bundle builder that allows customers to pick and choose the best setup for their needs with sweet illustrations to hold their hand throughout the process.

Simba Surf

Simba makes an advanced, modern helmet protection system designed specifically for the safety of surfers and other water sports. Their aqua-dynamic design provides full-head coverage without compromising the freedom of underwater movement.

Because they’re a start-up, we had the opportunity to start fresh without any baggage to weigh down the process. We designed a custom site that’s sleek, informative, and easy to use and administer on Shopify.

Tepui Tents

These days there are a lot of imitators, but Tepui truly are the pioneers of rooftop tents.

Now a division of Thule, Tepui is a Santa Cruz, California-based company that lives and breathes in the overlanding space.

No list of websites in the outdoor industry would be complete without highlighting theirs. We had the luxury to work with their new branding to reinvent and reinvigorate their online presence in the shape of a shiny new Shopify Plus site.

Gator Waders

Straight out of Texas, Gator Waders makes awesome waders for hunting, fishing, and off-roading.

As an outdoor adventure brand, they sought us out to redesign and redefine their shopping experience. Pixel-perfect top-to-bottom, their Shopify-backed website spares no expense when it comes to a high-converting user-experience in a super clean package.

HitchFire

Brought to you by the founders of Tepui, HitchFire is bringing life to the hitch, and then some.

Their first offering’s a super rugged barbecue that’s secured right on the hitch of your vehicle. This product is an outdoorsman’s dream and has taken the overlanding community by storm since day one.

In the start-up phase, we designed a customized Shopify theme that keeps all of the meaty details in the hot seat and excels on mobile devices.

Adventure Out

One of our favorites to this day, Adventure Out’s website is an example of everything a website in the outdoor adventure space should be—edgy, clean, and engaging.

We completely demolished their old site and built out a new custom design on the WordPress platform.

Mountain Lion Foundation

If you’re an outdoorsman, it’s likely you’re in cougar country whenever you’re on an adventure.

We designed the new MountainLion.org website to be as sleek and nimble as the animal themselves. We built it out as a custom theme on the WordPress platform.

Lifeshirt

The Lifeshirt Team is on a mission to save lives by developing innovative water safety products that combine style, comfort, and utility.

With only a few products to start, the Lifeshirt site is just as much about selling the product as it is about telling their story and introducing the brand.

We designed and developed this tight little site on Shopify so they can easily scale as they grow.

What Happens When Outdoor Brands Do Not Evolve Their Website

  • Customers abandon due to confusion or friction. These common UX mistakes are often the reason why.

  • Average order value stays flat

  • Strong products fail to translate online

Your website is not just a storefront. It is your primary sales tool.

What It Is Like to Work With Us

We start by understanding your product, your customer, and where your current site is underperforming.

A website audit is usually the first step.

From there, we design a buying experience that aligns with how your customers actually shop, not just how websites look.

Every decision is made with conversion, scalability, and brand integrity in mind.

We have worked with outdoor brands across multiple categories including backpacking, overlanding, water sports, and hunting.

While each brand is different, the goal is always the same. Build a site that converts.
