Whale City Bakery

A historic landmark, Whale City is a cozy bakery, bar and grill in the tiny beach town of Davenport. Located right off of California's Highway 1 up the coast from Santa Cruz, they serve awesome baked goods, organic coffee, breakfast, lunch and dinner. It's a local favorite and a must-stop if you're passing through.

A Long And Storied History

In business since 1982, Whale City never got around to putting up a website. They recruited us to do it right the first time to extend their reach to both locals and tourists alike. We designed a beautiful responsive design interface to compliment their new branding and professional photos, built out a custom CMS, and topped it all off with a WordPress blog.

Setting Them Apart

Whale City is a one-of-a-kind restaurant, so they needed a unqiue site to adequately represent them. While many restaurants these days seem to think they can get by with a cheap off-the-shelf template, we did them right with a carefully crafted layout backed by our custom Sleepless CMS. Whether you're talking about their food, or their site—no one has what they have, and they wouldn't have it any other way.

Visual Storytelling

We took extra care in designing a robust gallery system that showcases their bakery, grill and Davenport itself. The gallery pages boast a card-style layout, making it flexible for all different image sizes and super conducive to their site's responsive nature.

Print Design

To ensure Whale City's branding is kept consistent across the board, we remain on tap to help them out with miscellaneous print design projects as needed including business cards, stickers and more.

Mobile City

Restaurants rely heavily on mobile traffic and they need to make sure their site comes up great as users find them on mobile apps like Yelp, Foodspotting and Open Table. Whale City's site is optimized for mobile, with a transformative mobile experience across all devices.
